THE FOUR BLUE FACETED GEMSTONES THAT ARE MOST OFTEN SEEN IN COMMERCIAL JEWELRY ARE IN ORDER OF HOW EXSPENSIVE THEY ARE: TOPAZ, AQUAMARINE, TANZANITE AND SAPPHIRE. Tanzanite is one of the few trichroic gemstones known to man, meaning it has the ability to display three colours within the same gemstone. The three colours seen in a tanzanite are shades of blue, violet and red. The top and most sought-after colour for tanzanite is vivid royal blue.

THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT IN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN BANGKOKTHAILAND WITH THE ORIGEN OF THE STONE INDICATED AS TANZANIA. IT HAS A VVS (EYE CLEAR) CLARITY WHICH MEANS IT NO INCLUSIONS CAN BE SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE WHICH IT APPEARS TO BE. WAS ALSO SOLD AS A NATURAL AND UNHEATED GEMSTONE.

DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT AND THERE ARE NO TESTS (SCRATCH TEST; UV TEST; THERMAL TEST) THAT I COULD PERFORM ON TANZANITE THAT CAN CONFIRM THIS GEMSTONES NATURE AND PROPERTIES. THIS GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. ALTHOUGH TANZANITE CANNOT BE SYNTHESIZED ADVANCED INSTRUMENTS ARE NEEDED TO DISTINGUISH TANZANITE WITH OTHER GEMSTONES.

SIZE: 6,2mm x 6,3mm x 4,6mm

TANZANITE:
Tanzanite is the blue and violet variety of the mineral zoisite, caused by small amounts of vanadium. It is classified as a silicate. The extraordinary gemstone was first discovered in 1967 at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro the only known source in the world. All of the known deposits are confined to a few square miles of land in northern Tanzania.
The mineral zoisite naturally occurs in a wide range of colors that include colorless, gray, yellow, brown, pink, green, blue, and violet. The name "tanzanite" is used for a color variety of zoisite that ranges from blue, through violet, to violish purple.
HEAT TREATMENT IS DONE TO ALMOST ALL OF THE TANZANITE ON THE MARKET TODAY TO IMPROVE THE COLOR. SCIENTISTS FOUND THAT HEATING COULD CONVERT SOME NATURALLY BROWN OR GREEN ZOISITE INTO BEAUTIFUL BLUE ZOISITE(TANZANITE!). WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A SMALL AMOUNT OF NATURALLY BLUE MATERIAL, HEATING IS THE SOURCE OF TANZANITE'S DESIRABLE BLUE COLOR.
Tanzanite is one of the most sought-after gemstones of all time. According to a Tanzanian geologist, the circumstances that led to its formation 585 million years ago were so exceptional that the likelihood of finding tanzanite anywhere else on earth is one in a million, making it a thousand times rarer than diamonds.
With only one known source in the world, tanzanite is predicted to be depleted within 10-12 years.

NATURAL, SYNTHETIC OR FAKE?
There is no synthetic for tanzanite like in synthetic sapphires, ruby and emeralds. Only imitations can be a problem and they can include glass, synthetic quartz, synthetic spinel, synthetic sapphire etc.
