ARTIST GUISEPPI TARANTINO RITRATTO (1916-1999): Giuseppe Tarantino was a painter from Palermo born in 1916 and died in 1999. He was the author of numerous drawings and graphic works in which he developed a study especially for the human figure and portrait. To distinguish this artist from his predecessors with the same name it is often followed by the word Ritratto (as in Giuseppe Tarantino Ritratto) which means portraiture. He produced many of these sketches in the early 1970s. They were sold as prints (screenprints) and even framed as miniatures printed on silk. Framed big-eyed prints by Guiseppi Tarantino from the 1960s and 1970s were popular home decor items in their day but have become increasingly rare and really quite collectable.
SERIGRAPHY: In the 1930s a group of artists linked the word Serigraphy with fine arts and screen printing. 'Seri' is Latin for silk and 'graphein' is Greek for to write or draw.
Serigraphy, also known as silk screening, screen printing or serigraph printing, is a stencil-based printing process in which ink is forced through a fine screen onto the paper beneath. Screens were originally made of silk, but they are now made of finely woven polyester or nylon.
The advantage of serigraphy is that it is a higher quality output than digital prints and more durable over the long-term. can be used on a variety of different print materials, including glass, wood, textiles, signs, banners, electronics, and much more.
