Lovely antique sterling silver ladies purse (reticule) in excellent condition.
Approximately 55 grams sterling silver. The purse is about 200 years old.
This delicate piece of history is up for grabs.
It was known as a "reticule", which is a small type of purse used mainly from 1795 to 1820.
The name is French, derived from the Latin word "reticulum", meaning "net".
The reticule became popular with the advent of Regency fashions in the late 18th century.
Some was made of velvet, silk and satin, and usually had a drawstring closure at the top.
