This Katana has a sharp blade of 1060 and 9260 high carbon steels folded to form 6000 internal steel layers. Katanas were traditionally folded for two purposes. One is to purge impurities from the steel blooms extracted from iron sands. The second is to mix harder and softer steel together into a composite to make a sword that will be strong when cutting, yet flexible enough to absorb shock. Modern steel is technically quite pure and this folding process is now done as an appeal to the art and tradition of katana craftsmanship. A waved hamon line from tempering can be seen along the edge of the blade.
The tsuba has the turbulent briny sea of the tsunami cast in brass - perhaps a representative of the soul of the samurai frozen into metal effigy. This tsuba and the other metal grip fittings of the katana are of antiqued brass. The habaki and seppa are of shiny brass. The wooden tsuka is wrapped with white rayskin and overlaid with black tsuka-ito cord with two brass menuki beneath.
The wood saya scabbard is lacquered in black with a matching black sageo cord. Comes with a black cloth sword bag.
