Description: Lovely Pair of Vintage Brass and Marble Peacock Candlesticks.
These vintage brass and marble peacock candlesticks were made by the company Tamar in Israel. The design is highly characteristic of items produced by the Israeli company Tamar (sometimes referred to as Hen Holon or Dayagi). These were marketed as "Holyland Brass" pieces. They are made from cast brass with what appear to be inlaid turquoise-coloured stones (sometimes referred to as Eilat stone or enamel) and a marble base.
Given their common association with Israeli makers like Tamar and references to 'Shabbat candles', they were often used for holding candles during the Shabbat religious observance, or simply as decorative household items.
Tamar was an influential Israeli workshop, active primarily in the mid-20th century (1950s to 1970s), known for high-quality cast brass Judaica and decorative art items. Their pieces are known for combining traditional Yemenite-inspired motifs with a mid-century modern or Brutalist design aesthetic.
