Rose quartz beads dating back to 7000 BC have been found in the area once known as Mesopotamia (todays Iraq). People in the earliest recorded times believed in the magical powers of quartz. Ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Greek civilizations used quartz crystals as potent talismans with magic powers. The Romans used rose quartz as a seal to signify ownership, and Egyptians believed the stone could prevent aging.

Rose quartz is a pink translucent variety of quartz ranging from barely perceptible rosy coloration to deep, rich pink. Although quartz is one of the most common minerals on Earth, natural rose quartz is one of the rarer colored varieties of crystalline quartz. Pink is one of the less common colours in which quartz occurs.
Rose quartz is always found in massive form, so it lacks regular, flat crystal faces. It's typically found in pegmatites, but also occurs in hydrothermal veins. The crystal habit of rose quartz is massive, meaning the crystals grow as one large mass without a defined shape or form. This is unusual for quartz, which typically forms well-structured individual chrystals. Well-formed crystals of rose quartz have never been found. 
Its unique colour has been a subject of debate for many years. Despite extensive analysis, scientists are still not certain what causes rose quartz to be pink.
This stone can be found all over the world, with major deposits being in Madagascar, India, South Africa, and Brazil.
