The Combiner Box acts as a double adapter with Surge Overload Protection Built in and simplifies wiring for added convenience and safety. Greatly simplifies input and output wiring, for connection between the PV panels and the MPPT. It supplies independent cut off between the panels and the MPPT charge controller (regulator), it facilitates surge arrestors for lightning protection and fuses.

BELOW IMAGES ARE THOSE OF THE TWO STRING COMBINER BOX, THE 6 STRING would be for 6 sets of isolators, fuses etc. 
                               

 For ONE string of panels connected in series you require a 1 string combiner box.

 For TWO strings of panels the 2 string ( like the one listed above), and so on.

 NB: If you are connecting the PV panels in parallel, then each panel is a string.
