Maker: Similar pipes like the one on offer are found throughout most parts of Africa but I believe the pipe is originally from the DRC region.
Date: Estimated date1920-1950. It is very difficult to accurately African pieces as many were handed down in the families and many later pieces were copied from existing pieces. Please take note this is a genuine Calabash Pipe, not a tourist reproduction!
History:The Songye people, sometimes written Songe, are a Bantu ethnic group from the Central Democratic Republic of the Congo They speak the Songe language. They inhabit a vast territory between the Sankuru/Lulibashriver in the west and the Lualaba River in the east. They are related to theLuba tribe
Description: This is a hand-decorated Calabash (Gourd) pipe, well-used and decorated with fine copper wire.
Condition: Good condition throughout.
Dimensions: The pipe measures roughly 28 cm in length with a maximum diameter of 7.5cm.
