Salicyclic acid keeps pores clean and unclogged, it prevents future whiteheads and blackheads from developing. Salicylic acid also exfoliates dead skin, and its anti-inflammatory properties make it a prime ingredient to those with psoriasis. Salicylic acid naturally occurs in willow bark, sweet birch bark and wintergreen leaves. Kojic acid inhibits and prevents the formation of tyrosine which is an amino acid that is needed to produce melanin. Melanin is the pigment that affects hair, skin, and eye color. Because it inhibits the production of melanin, kojic acid can have a lightening effect.
