Luffa cylindrica
Days to Maturity: 110
Days to emerge: 10-25
Seed depth: ½ Soak 4-5 hoursfirst for faster germination.
Placement: Full Sun;
Average soil Seedling id: Two rather large oval/elongated leaves on each seedling, much like a squash or cucumber.
When to sow outside: 2-3weeks after last frost.
Since luffas are in the squash family, it is not recommended that they be planted near other squash or cucumber crops due to the possible cross-pollination. Luffas will get worms in the fruit, just like squash and cucumbers, and worm holes will discolor the sponge. Luffas may be treated with insecticides or insecticidal soap as you would these other vegetables, if desired.
Make your own Loofah
Let the fruit dry on the vine prior to harvesting. Once harvested, carefully remove the peel without damaging the fibers.
Repeatedly dunk the Loofah in a bucket filled with water and a little bleach to remove the seeds.
Hang up to dry and your Loofah is ready to use!
THIS ITEM CAN BE COMBINED WITH ANY OTHER PLANTS/SEEDS ON AUCTION.
