Named after Sir Charles James Renault Saunders (1857-1935), botanist who collected the first specimen in Natal, South Africa at the end of the 19th Century.
Kudu lily (Pachypodium saundersii) is a popular succulent species that is considered the easiest of its genus to grow in cultivation. It is common to plant kudu lily in pots and gardens. This species, which is native to Africa,  are caudiciform succulents and produce spectacular flowers.   The Kudu Lily can also  be trained into a fascinating bonsai.
Like others in the genus the Kudu Lily is used in traditional medicine to treat bacterial infections and cancer. In Eswatini, Pachypodium saundersii is used to treat toothache
