M42-to-EF Adapter

Use any screw mount lens on your Canon DSLR camera!

Chrome-plated Brass · Flangeless Version · For M42×1 Lenses

··· Infinity Focus ···

··· No Electronic Contacts ···

Flangeless M42-to-EF adapter. (Smurf not included.)

Flanged version of the M42-to-EF adapter shown on a Canon EOS 30D camera. (Camera, flanged adapter and Smurf not included.)

Asahi Super-Takumar 1:2.8/105 lens attached to a Canon EOS 30D camera with the M42-to-EF adapter. (Lens and camera not included.)

··· Flanged or Flangeless Version? ···

The purpose of the flange is to depress the pin at the back of the lens, which closes the aperture. If your lens has an A/M lever, then I recommend the flangeless version. The A/M lever can now be used to stop-down the lens to a preset aperture. If your lens does not have an A/M lever, then you definitely need the flanged version. Otherwise the aperture will always be set at wide open. (Note that the functionality of the A/M lever is negated by the flange.)

The aperture pin is depressed by the flange on the flanged M42-to-EF adapter. (Lens not included.)

The aperture pin is not depressed on the flangeless M42-to-EF adapter. (Lens not included.)

··· Vertical Offset ···

You will notice that the lens, when fully screwed into the adapter, has a vertical offset of some degrees to the left (when viewed from the front). This is normal. The reason for this “standard” offset is to enable the photographer to view the distance scale on the lens, for otherwise the built-in flash blocks it in the 0° position. However, I have found that this is indeed not the case and therefore the following can be done: By lightly sanding the adapter with some 2000 grit waterpaper about 0.2 millimetre is removed, which now aligns the lens straight. This does not affect infinity focus and also makes the adapter look very “steam-punk”.

The offset is by design on the M42-to-EF adapter. (Camera and lens not included.)

A “grounded” adapter, showing the beautiful brass. (Camera and Soligor lens not included.)

This is a flangeless M42-to-EF adapter with no electronic contacts.

Postage & Packaging will be R26,80 for one to five adapters.
