Mafeking Road - Herman Charles Bosman - Cape Town: Human & Rousseau, 1979.
Book Condition: Black Linen Board, good. Cover slight white marks. Spine is very slightly bumped top and bottom. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair, several  tears and shop worn and spine faded. 14cm - 22cm with 166 pages. Collection of 21 short stories first published in 1947 in South Africa where it was at once hailed as an important contribution to that country's literature. Despite local settings, Bosman's themes are universal and his light touch gives his stories a very human appeal. Black and photograph of author on rear of cover. Ex-Library edition.

What William Plomer wrote of Unto Dust applies to all Bosman's short stories: "It is perhaps Bosman's -chief feat in these stories to have presented local and remote involvements of passion, love, hate, fidelity, infidelity, history and death in such a way that they are made universally human and to have maintained while doing so his light and entertaining touch. What an uncommon gift!"
