This book is a revised version of an Afrikaans play featuring the wife of the Voortrekker leader Pieter Retief originally staged n 1938. It is a notable because of the rarity of Uys Krige's work during this period and because of Cecil Higgs's cover design and woodcuts. The play covers the period 1798 to 1852.
Pencil annotations on text pages have not been erased. One of the seven woodcuts has pencil writing surrounding it but the others are clear of writing.
