VINTAGE ENGLISH OPAL 9CT YELLOW GOLD RING WITH DECORATIVE CLAW DESIGN
This lovely ring features 7 x oval cut iridescent fire opal cabochons claw set in 9ct yellow gold across the ring head. The claws are beautifully designed, almost having an organic sea-anemone feel to them. The shank is slender, simple, and widening on the shoulders, where grooved detailing on the top of the shoulders leads to the opals. The ring head measures 18mm wide x 4mm long and reaches 3mm above the finger. The ring's vintage English pedigree is evident in the hallmarks: '375' indicating 9ct gold, the jeweller's signature and the Sheffield Assay mark. It weighs 1.91 grams. A slender ring with a half-eternity design that stretches right across the finger, it would stack well with other rings. The iridescence of the opals is wonderful - a true fire opal. Tricky to capture on camera but you can see something of the natural iridescence in the close-up photograph above. The piece is good condition. One opal has a dimple -visible with a magnifying glass - that could be a natural indentation or a result of wear. Opal jewellery set in real gold - especially the vintage pieces - are increasingly difficult to come by. This English ring would make a particularly nice collectable item for the jewellery collection.
