Lovely old piece. Although listed as secondhand please note the
rattan seat and back was replaced. The rest of the chair as is and
does have scuff marks from use. Nothing to detract and easily
touched up if so desired. The inventor of the process of bentwood
furniture "Thonet" pronounced Tho-nay was Michael Thonet
1796-1871 German/ Austrian whom recognized flowing forms and resulting
lightweight products. He received a patent in 1856 for the process
of bentwood manufacturing, when he and his
sons began to produce innovative "bentwood" furniture.
The patent expired in 1869 and imitations abounded.
In the "style" of Thonet as item not marked as such
Measures length 99cm, the height to back is 101cm and the width
front arms 55cm
