This is the third in a series of facsimile reprints of scarce nineteenth and early twentieth century South African pamphlets. Published in limited editions. This is copy # 7 of 100. Original pamphlet published 1891. This edition contains a new introduction by G Christison. The pamphlet recounts the events leading to and surrounding the events of Majuba Hill, a British colonial disaster in 1881 South Africa. The author, writing over a decade after the engagement, counters accusations that British troops lacked courage in the face of the Boers. Through a meticulous compilation of firsthand accounts from the officers involved, the book details how, despite the bravery of the troops, the British were doomed to fail. The author argues that an untenable position and a series of blunders, including an impulsive and poorly planned attack, led to the tragic loss. The author concludes that the insights into the disaster at Majuba Hill provide valuable lessons for military strategists.
