MAHJONG SET - VINTAGE BONE AND BAMBOO - SINGAPORE RULES

Rare vintage mini bone and bamboo Mahjong set - Singapore rules. 

Featured is a delightful mini, full set of C-1920's hand painted masterfully designed Japanese bone and bamboo Mahjong tiles.They are very detailed and quite lovely. 

This remarkable special feature set has a wonderful strutting peacock one bams, and flower bouquets  Singapore residents have a long history of being enthusiastic about the game of Mahjong.  In fact this set is Singapore's own version of the game, played with delightful "capture" Flower tiles that include the cat and mouse tiles as well as the rich man and the pot of gold.  But during the early days of the Sino-Japanese war, in the 1930s, seeing an increasingly aggressive Japan having invaded and taken over part of china, Singapore was concerned about being "captured" by the Japanese.  Other images began to appear on the Mahjong tiles.

The attache case is of red leather with brass closing mechanism.  The used tiles need cleaning and show some surface wear consistent with use and age. Overall this game is in very good vintage condition.
