Behold the Ancient Ocean's Apex Predator - A 55-Million-Year-Old Giant's Legacy!
Unearth a piece of prehistoric power with this stunning Otodus Obliquus tooth on matrix from Morocco! This isn't just a fossil; it's a tangible link to a time when giant sharks ruled the ancient seas. This particular piece is a phenomenal example, with a beautifully preserved tooth still embedded in the original rock matrix where it was discovered in the Oulad Abdoun Basin, Morocco. The matrix measures 117mm x 85mm and the entire piece weighs 319 grams, while the impressive tooth itself is approximately 40mm x 37mm.
This incredible Otodus Obliquus tooth dates back to the Paleocene to Eocene epochs, making it a staggering 45 to 60 million years old! During this period, the area that is now the Oulad Abdoun Basin in Morocco was submerged under a vast, shallow ocean. As the massive Otodus Obliquus sharks shed their teeth (which they did throughout their lives), they would sink to the seabed. Over millions of years, these teeth were buried in sediment, and the minerals from the surrounding rock gradually replaced the tooth's original material, turning it into the beautiful, solid fossil you see today. This process is called permineralization. Otodus obliquus was a true marine monarch, a gigantic mackerel shark that is considered the ancestor of the legendary Megalodon. It's estimated that this colossal predator could reach lengths of up to 9 meters (30 feet)!
This rare and beautifully preserved specimen is a must-have for any fossil collector, and a truly unique gift for anyone who appreciates the wonders of natural history. Don't miss your chance to own a genuine piece of the Earth's ancient past!
