An authorative account of the struggle by Communist rebel's efforts to seize power, resulting in violence and reasons for its failure.

Very scarce.

One of the most important in recent world history has bee the successful, though protracted, campaign of the successive British and Malayan governments against the communist rebels in the jungles and remote villages of the peninsula. Major OBallance, whose books on recent military history, and in particular on wars involving the Communist guerrilla techniques, have won him a wide reputation, provides here a lucid and authorative account of the struggle, stage by stage.

The reasons for the Communist failure are complex. It was partly due to their own political and tactical errors and partly after an initial slump in morale to vigorous and shrewdly judged counter-measures on the part of the administration, particularly during Sir Gerald Templers tenure of office. In a final chapter the author discusses this and similar questions (not excluding the significance for the struggle of the great independence) and suggests what lessons may be learned about the nature of guerrilla warfare and ways of dealing with it.
