The Malmédy issues were produced in 1920 during the Allied occupation following World War I, when the territory of Malmédy and neighboring Eupen were transferred from Germany to Belgium under the Treaty of Versailles.
During this transitional period, stamps were overprinted MALMÉDY in black or red to indicate Belgian administrative control. These stamps are listed in the Scott Catalogue under Germany (Occupation Issues) as numbers 1N421N58. All stamps are shown in the 1st image. The rest are close-ups.
