Hardcover first published 1943 by Cassell & Company. The remains of the jacket are much worn, marked and torn. The boards too are edge-worn and somewhat battered, with a large crease to the front one, visible on both sides. Some of the pages are lightly creased, but apart from the signature of a previous owner on the first end-paper, and a short strip of felt-tip pen to the external edges of pages 141-162, the pages are clean and unmarked.
