109 pp., 5.75 x 8.5 inches. Very good condition.
Artist Manfred Zylla was born in Augsburg, Germany, in 1939 and arrived in South Africa in 1970. A prominent and visible critic of apartheid, his work has always dealt directly with events (such as the Soweto uprising in 1976) and social issues, and was repeatedly banned by the government.
The present book began as the accompaniment for an exhibition mounted by Heidi Erdmann, and eventually evolved into a first-person narration of Zyllas life, a retrospection over seven decades.
With more than 150 reproductions in color and black-&-white, primarily of the artists drawings and prints, but also including photographs and other documents.
