This is a Manna China Tea Set that is made in Japan. It has 3 cups and 3 saucers and a creamer
and sugar bowl and a Teapot. The sugar bowl has a lid , so does the Teapot. It is hand painted
mountain scene with huts and trees in Gold. It has a gold trim around the rims of the edges of
all of the cups, saucers, creamer and sugar bowl and teapot. It is fine china.
The trhree cups have a lipothane Geisha in the bottom of them.
What is a geisha lithophane?
To make a porcelain teacup lithophane, some areas of porcelain are thicker than others so that
when the cup is held up to a light, the difference in porcelain thickness creates an image.
In Japanese export ware of the 1900s, the image was often a geisha.
What is Lipothane
A lithophane is a three-dimensional relief representation of an image that is visible from
behind through illumination. The different thicknesses of the material layer create light
and dark areas that create a special picture effect when light falls. In this way, images
can be represented as relief in a creative way.
