The book investigates the application of the general strategy of guerrilla warfare by ZANU and its military wing the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA), which was established by the Revolutionary Council (Dare-Re-Chimurenga) of ZANU, during their campaign in Rhodesia (1965-1979). In addition, the extent to which ZANU and ZANLA utilized Mao Tse-tung's three-phase strategy of guerrilla warfare, whether there were any deviations, and if so, how such deviations manifested themselves are discussed. The author describes Mao's concepts of the strategy of protracted war, the way in which ZANU and ZANLA established themselves in a campaign of guerrilla warfare and the guerrilla-cum-terrorist operations. The concept of mobile warfare and its relation to the war is discussed and attention is given to foreign aid and casualties. Included are a number of photographs and a selection of Chimurenga songs.
