Margaret Richardson 9ct Gold and Blue Spinel Dress Ring
The vintage 9ct yellow gold dress ring is in a Modernist style. It is claw-and-bezel-set with a blue, emerald-cut, synthetic spinel (approximately 13.8mm x 10.5mm circa 8.0ct). The bezel is raised on a rectangular, triple-stacked framework, which is connected to the shoulders and shank. The ring is stamped LMR for (Lili) Margaret Richardson (1908-1989).
Born Ulli Margarete Samuelson in Russia 1908, Margaret Richardson later settled in South Africa after WWII, worked in Johannesburg in the 1960's and 1970's, and became well known for her hand-made gold and silver jewellery, which was generally in the Modernist style.
