Emil Blonsky, born in Zagreb (now the capital of Croatia), was a KGB agent who infiltrated an Air Force Base in New Mexico. There, Dr. Bruce Banner was attempting to kill the Hulk through overexposure to gamma rays. Blonsky triggered Banner's transformation into the Hulk and subsequently became a hideous lizard-like creature himself.

The Abomination has battled numerous heroes, including the Silver Surfer and Thor. His many conflicts have seen him as First Mate of an alien crew, battling the Hulk in space, and being used by General Ross to defeat the Hulk. Despite his incredible power, the Abomination has often found himself at odds with Earth's heroes, facing imprisonment, manipulation, and betrayal.
