It not only tells his story but also that of the people and animals he worked with. The book is illustrated throughout with black and white drawings by the well known botanical artist Elsa Pooley.              

The book is in very good condition. There is a small tear near the spine on the dust jacket. A fascinating read for anyone interested in the interactions between people, animals and plants.
