Matchbox Lesney 1D ROAD ROLLER
| One of a series of Road Rollers holding the number 1 slot in the 1-75 range. The Aveling Barford roller came in three variants following on from an earlier design with a full length roof like an old traction engine; referred to as 1a. There three castings of the Aveling Barford roller are referred to as 1b, 1c and 1d. The first was 57mm in length and was pale green with red metal rollers being released in 1956. The second Aveling Barford (1c) came out in 1958 it was slightly longer at 62mm, the one pictured above is the fourth roller and the third Aveling Barford, 1d. It was released in 1962 and was longer again at 67mm, it also has plastic rollers for the first time and was sold up until 1967. |
