Matching numbers 1909 German Southwest Africa Schutztruppe KS98 Sawback Bayonet & Scabbard by Erfurt

KS98 Bayonet with leather grips issued to the South West African Kaiserliche Schutztruppe (German Imperial Colonial Troops) in very good condition.

The original machining marks are still visible on the sawback and the release/locking button on the bayonet moves freely.

Never been sharpened, very minor oxidation on blade and scabbard. Small dent in scabbard and small piece of the blade tip is missing.

Made by in Germany by Erfurt in 1909. Comes with a matching steel scabbard.

Length of blade ~25cm. Length of hilt ~13cm. Weight of bayonet ~400g. Weight including scabbard ~520g.

Stamped markings as follows:

• Hilt and scabbard, matching unique numbers: “K.S.8342”

• Flat of blade at the base: “ERFURT” below imperial crown.

• Spine of the blade at the base: “W/09” (date mark) below the imperial crown and below that Wilhelm II's monogram.
