It is a complete, electrically isolated RS485/RS422 datacommunication interface solution in a hybrid microcircuit. The I/O pins areprotected against ±15KV ESD shocks without latch-up. Transceivers, optocouplersand transformer provide a complete interface in a standard DIP package. A single+5V supply on logic side powers both sides of the interface. The MAX1480EAdriver slew rate is not limited and it allows transmission rate up to 2.5Mbps.Drivers are short circuit current limited and protected against excessive powerdissipation by thermal shutdown circuitry that places the driver outputs into ahigh impedance state. The receiver input has a fail-safe feature that provides aknown output (complementary RO pin is low) if input is open circuit.
