Mayor CJH Patmore Fund 18ct GOLD MEDAL for Kruger Statue

Laidlaw # 1223 struck in 18ct gold weighing 21.5 grams.

Laidlaw says ... "The medal was commissioned by the Mayor of Johannesburg, C.J.H. Patmore, as part of the fund raising effort to finance the moving of Paul Kruger's statue to its present location in Church Square, Pretoria, and the acquisition of tapestries for the Voortrekker Monument. The fund was established in June 1954 under the auspices of the Krugergenootschap (Kruger Society) in Pretoria and under the chairmanship of Patmore in Johannesburg. The objective was to provide £22,000 for moving the statue and £15,000 for the tapestries".

Only 100 of these rare medals were made.
