An EXCELLENT example of a RARE, King George V One Penny Stationery Letter Cover - posted & addressed to renown South African Judge , Sir John Gilbert Kotzé (1849 -1940). The Honourable , Sir John Gilbert was an eminent Jurist- who was appointed as a judge of the High Court of the Transvaal in 1877; becoming Chief Justice in 1881. A political rival of President Paul Kruger at the time, John Gilbert ran for Presidency of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek in 1893 - losing the election.

Judge Kotzé became Attorney-General for Southern Rhodesia in 1900 , and was appointed to the Supreme Court of the Cape Provincial Division in 1913. The Honourable J.G. Kotzé was subsequently Knighted by King George V in February 1917 - whereafter he served as Judge of Appeal until his retirement I 1927.

The ideal addition to any early 20th Century South African Philatelic/ Historical memorabilia collection or display- for the enthusiast seeking a RARE & irreplaceable piece of South Africa's Heritage.
