A BEAUTIFULLY LARGE (60x38CM) SILVERPLATED TRAY. MADE BY BEESTON & CO IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND IN THE EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY FROM 1901. A WONDERFUL ANTIQUE ITEM.
MARKINGS: MAZEPPA UNDER A HORSE ENGRAVING. THIS WAS THE MARK OF SAMUEL HANCOCK & SONS AND WAS USED BY A GROUP OF SILVERPLATED MAKERS THAT OPERATED IN THE MAZEPPA WORKS IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND.
THE OTHER MARK ABOVE MAZEPPA IS B & CO EPNS AA. THE B & CO STANDS FOR BEESTON & CO WHICH WAS ONE OF THE COMPANIES THAT OPERATED IN SHEFFIELD SINCE 1901 AND USED THE MAZEPPA HORSE MARK.
THE AA MARK: These discreet markings indicate the number of ounces of pure silver used in the plating. There's two ounces per gross of teaspoons for A1,and three ounces for AA.
Condition: STILL IN GOOD CONDITION. WHEN WE FOUND THE TRAY IT WAS BLACKISH WITH TARNISH. WAS CLEANED UP ONE TIME WITH SYLVO AND CLEANED UP NICELY APART FOR A FEW SPOTS. CAN DO WITH ANOTHER CLEANING. INCLUDED IS PHOTOS FROM BEFORE AND AFTER.
