Model of the racing version of the ground-breaking McLaren F1 Supercar which won at Le Mans in 1995.
The McLaren F1 was designed by (South African) Gordon Murray in the early 1990s and was conceived to be the supercar of all supercars. It set benchmarks for supercars for the following decades.
Although not designed as a competition car, McLaren was encouraged to develop a race version which entered the fray in 1995 run by a number of private teams - the McLaren F1 GTR. This had surprisingly few modifications from the road car initially.
In 1995 the F1 GTR scored a most unexpected win at LeMans against formidable sportscar competition in a wet race where most of the quicker cars were delayed. Driven by Dalmas/Lehto/Sekiya. In fact due to bullet-proof reliability and well suited to the conditions, F1 GTRs finished first, third, fourth and fifth! A result that stands out in Le Mans history.
This Minichamps model of the winner captures the essence of the F1 GTR - it is a bold car.
In excellent condition and supplied in its original box also in good condition. A piece of history and essential for any McLaren/Le Mans collection.
From my private collection.
