Lovely Carousel model of the 1974 Indy 500 winning Mclaren M16 driven by Johnny Rutherford (who won again in 1976). Vibrant in McLaren papaya one of the best looking M16s.
The M16 was the most successful Indycars of the 1970s and won Indianapolis 500 in 1972/74/76. It raced in Indycars for a decade. Inspired by the Lotus 72 F1 car which won two F1 Championships. It was a trend setter which influenced Indycars forever. It also spawned the McLaren M23 also a twice F1 Championship winner.
It was the last car to win Indianapolis 500 with the legendary Offenhauser engine.
This model is increasing rare and difficult to find and now pricey. Carousel made a wonderful model range of American centred cars in its heyday. A great collectors piece for any Indycar/American; historic racecar; McLaren fan. Can also display well in an F1 collection alongside the Lotus 72/McLaren M23 for comparison.
In mint condition and presented in a beautiful exhibition box complete with an external white protective sleeve.
NOTE:- This sale needs to be finalised by 18 Nov or I will only be able to post when I return on 7 Dec!
