The East African Wildlife Society commissioned this series of 20 bronze medals that portray African big game animals in danger of extinction. Sculptor Anthony Jones made a 1600 mile trek through Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda so that he might study and accurately sketch the animals at first hand. The set was issued in 1971-1972.
Each medal is a massive 51 millimetres in diameter and weighs 57.4 grams (twice the size of a crown of 5-shilling piece!)
