Living with Bipolar Disorder is a documentary about a young film director, 26-year-old Simon Barnard, and his affliction with Bipolar Disorder.

It sets out to explain the fundamentals of a potentially life-threatening mental condition about which most people know and understand very little. Since limited information is available on this disorder and visual storytelling is a powerful medium to transmit information, it will serve as a valuable educational tool.

This short film offers an honest, intimate and often graphic documentary account of a young life interrupted by a condition affecting an estimated 1% of our population.

The documentary was co-produced and directed by Simon Barnard and forms part of a 13-part series dealing with mental illness. This series was commissioned by Medihelp medical scheme and is produced by the well known filmmaker Katinka heyns of Sonneblom Films. Simon Barnard is Katinka’s son.
