This huge Silver Ducatoon from Brabant (middle 1600s) was recovered from the wreck of the Dutch East Indiaman, the Meerensteijn, which was shipwrecked in 1702 near Jutten Island, Saldanha Bay, on the south west coast of South Africa.

The reverse of this 350-year-old VOC-period Ducatoon is in nice condition but the obverse well worn due to years under water. (See page 115 of Malcolm Turner’s Shipwrecks & Salvage in South Africa).
