MEGATRON ENGLAND 1960S ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTMETER IN OLD DOVETAILED WOODEN CASE COMPLETE! RARE FIND!

AN OLD 1960S MEGATRON ENGLAND ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTMETER. TYPE D 15 WITH SERIAL NO 2243876. IT COMES IN A BEAUTIFUL OLD WOODEN CASE WITH DOVETAILED JOINTS. THE LOCKS STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL KEYS INCLUDED. NEEDS A POWER SOURCE (PLEASE SEE PHOTOS) HENCE NOT TESTED. IT APPEARS COMPLETE WITH ALL KNOBS TURNING AS THEY SHOULD. HAS EXTRA LIGHT GLOBES AND CLAMMPS AS SEEN IN PHOTO. WITH ORIGINAL CALIBRATION TEST PAPER FROM 1964.
 
The graduated adjustable knob on the left hand side with settings for light intensity in foot candles FC inscribed: Off, ADJ Zero 10, 5, 2, 1 and 0.2 FC. Further fitted with a spirit level, and and reading scale from 0-1.0, a loose light source device, 1 x folding tripod with detachable protractor (0-90 degrees) and 2 x rods.
 
Note: Illuminance is measured in foot candles (FC) or lux. 1 FC is the amount of light that hits a 1 square foot surface when 1 lumen is shined from 1 foot away this equates to 1 lumen per square foot. 1 lux is the amount of light that hits a 1 square meter surface when 1 lumen is shined from 1 meter away this equates to 1 lumen per square meter. Thus a foot-candle is equivalent to approximately 10 lux. Lux is essentially the same as foot-candles, but it defines the area being lit as a one-meter square, rather than a one-foot square.

ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTMETERS:
These light meters have been developed for use in existing buildings and in the design of new buildings with architectural models under artificial skies. By improving the design of buildings and the use made of natural light, significant savings can be made in the electricity used for lighting. The daylight factor is the illuminance on a horizontal surface inside a building expressed as a percentage of the illuminance on a horizontal surface under an unobstructed grey sky; it is a measure of how bright or gloomy the inside of a building will generally appear, when naturally lit. For many situations, the CIBSE Code for Interior Lighting suggests a Daylight Factor of five per cent or more for a well lit appearance, whilst a factor of less than two per cent does not look well lit and electric light will be in use usually throughout the day. These instruments will be of interest to lighting engineers, architects, energy saving consultants, as well as teaching faculties - in fact all those concerned with improving the design and lighting of buildings.
