Merrythought Bear Dressed as Guardsman, C.1972.

This bear is dressed as a guardsman, or to give him his full title, a member of the Household Cavalry. These were introduced in 1972-73. They were again made for a brief period in the 1980's. He stands 44 cm. tall. He still has his Merrythought Label attached to his foot. It is the earlier label without the wishbone. He is made of pure mohair and his head is fully jointed. He was made in the early 1970's. I believe the heads of the 1980's bears were not jointed, neither were they made of pure mohair. His little belt is made of pure leather. On the inside of his leg he has a cloth label attached which states "Conforms to British Safety Standards," with no mention of the EU, indicative he was manufactured prior to Britain entering the European Common Market. He stands 44 cm tall.
