A LARGE 13,45 CARAT (2,69G PLEASE SEE PHOTO MULTIPLY WEIGHT BY 5 TO GET CARATS) YELLOW GREEN HYDROTHERMAL QUARTZ GEMSTONE WITH A BEAUTIFUL BRIOLETTE (DRILLED) CUT. (A briolette cut is pear-shaped with facets that makes them sparkle beautifully in the light! Briolettes are usually fully drilled.) COMES WITH A PERSPEX PRESENTATION CASE.
 
MESMORIZING AND MYSTIFYING? A QUARTZ GEMSTONE IN YELLOW AND GREEN. THAT IS NOT CLEARLY NATURAL. INDEED IT IS CALLED A HYDROTHERMAL SYNTHETIC QUARTZ AND WAS MAN MADE UNDER HIGH HEAT AND PRESSURE CONDITIONS.

THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT IN 2011 FROM A SELLER IN MOSSEL BAY SOUTH AFRICA WITH THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN INDICATED AS BRAZIL. IT HAS A VVS (EYE CLEAR) CLARITY WHICH MEANS IT IS FREE OF INCLUSIONS AS SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE WHICH IT APPEARS TO BE. IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS AN HYDROTHERMAL QUARTZ GEMSTONE.

WHAT IS HYDROTHERMAL QUARTZ:
Though the cost of producing synthetic quartz is not much less than mining natural quartz, a large industry has developed to create synthetic quartz. Given the low price for natural quartz varieties, it may come as a surprise that there is a large industry producing synthetic quartz.
Hydrothermal synthesis is the process of crystal growth under hydrothermal conditions.This process requires heat and pressure and imitates the conditions deep in the earth that result in the formation of natural gems. Nutrients are dissolved in a water solution, and then synthetic crystals form as the solution cools.
This method was designed to produce colorless quartz for industrial applications. A most typical example is quartz which is in great demand in large quantities as oscillators.
Crystals grown by the hydrothermal method are also partly used as gem stones. And it is possible to grow synthetic quartz in colors not found in nature, including unusual multicolored combinations like in our gemstone.
Synthetic quartz is still real quartz composed of crystals of silicon dioxide just like natural quartz.

PASSED OR GAVE AN UNCLEAR ON ALL THE TESTS PERFORMED:
UNCLEAR SCRATCH TEST: IT DID NOT TRY TO SCRATCH SINCE I DID NOT WANT TO DAMAGE THIS BEAUTIFUL STONE. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT SCRATCHES GLASS (MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 QUARTZ 7.0-7.5)
UNCLEAR ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: AREAS OF BLUE, ORANGE AND GREEN.
GLASS AND ALL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT. SINCE THIS IS AN SYNTHETIC GEMSTONE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE I GUESS.
(THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.)
PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER A LITTLE FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 4. FOR QUARTZ A LEVEL OF 4 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER.
(WITH THIS TESTER GLASS MAKES NO MOVEMENT.)
