This small (30.5 x 23 cm) metal tray probably dates from the 1890s or circa 1900 and was given as a promotional giveaway by the firm of Luckhoff & Co., Merchants of Graaff-Reinet, to their clients. I have seen very similar trays for firms in other South African towns, also circa 1900.
Please study the images closely: there are many scratches to the surface.
The Luckhoff family has a very long association with Graaff-Reinet. One Luckhoff ran a church school here in the years c. 1840 - 1860 and was town clerk in the late 1860s and 1870s. Another Luckhoff was chairman of the Publicity Association from its inception in 1926.
