Michael Waters began painting in 1988. Although being both musically and artistically talented, it was only after a long and somewhat circuitous route, that he finally came around to painting and held his first exhibition at the Rondebosch Swatch Art Festival in 19988. His first solo exhibition was at the University of Stellenbosch in 1990.
The artist has exhibited in many group shows. Michael has had seven solo exhibitions and was recently offered an opportunity to exhibit in France and Madrid.
Michael Waters has work in private collections throughout the world. An extremely versatile artist, he has experimented in sculpture with glass, fibre glass, metal and wood. The artist's work is primarily expressionistic and depicts a broad range of subjects in various mediums, but he has a passion for oil.
Michael Waters lives alone in the farming district of Ladismith in the Klein Karoo, from where he works.
One can't but help being arrested by the brightness of his colours, the freshness of his style and the really wide variety of his subject matter, coupled with which the eye is caught and invited to trip around the picture and become involved in the goings-on there - wanting to become part of the scene and own a specific work that you like.
There is certainly something for everyone in the art of Mike Waters - figures in a cape country landscape, scenes from District Six or Bo-Kaap, portraits, clowns, Cape Town Waterfront scenes with backdrops of Table Mountain, Yachts in the Bay, still life with a difference, pictures within pictures, showing his great versatility and flexible style; all vibrant and alive work that can thrill and bring joy and great appreciation, leaving one with a desire to possess or even to try again oneself to paint a picture and never again be afraid of criticism.

Vista Nova School is unique as it caters for special needs learners from across the Peninsula and unlike traditional community schools, assists learners from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. The diversity of the learner’s backgrounds is transcended only by the commonality of their desire to overcome their individual disabilities and barriers to learning.
