This version is the highly desired Non-Ai model featuring the Compensating Diaphragm (indicated by the colorful marks above the distance scale), which provided automatic exposure compensation on early non-TTL metering bodies.

The lens is exceptionally versatile, functioning as both an outstanding, sharp normal 55mm prime lens for general photography and a highly capable macro optic. It focuses continuously from infinity down to a 1:2 (half-life-size) reproduction ratio using its built-in dual-helicoid focusing system. The barrel clearly shows markings for 1:1, 1:15, and 1:2 (reproduction ratios).

This is a Non-Ai (pre-Ai) lens. It is fully compatible with older mechanical Nikon F, F2, and F3 bodies. For use on modern digital Nikon SLRs, an Ai-conversion is typically required to ensure full meter coupling and compatibility.

The lens is in Excellent (EX) cosmetic condition and appears mechanically flawless.

• Optics: The glass elements are clean and bright. We find no fungus or haze. Minor internal dust is expected but does not affect image quality.
• Functionality: The focusing helicoid operates smoothly and precisely across the entire range (from infinity to 1:2 macro). The aperture ring clicks correctly.
• Cosmetic: The black metal barrel and textured rubber grip are in fantastic shape, showing only minimal traces of use. The metal coupling prong is intact.
