Product OverviewThe MCP23016-I/SP is a 16-bit I²C I/O Expander provides 16-bit, generalpurpose, parallel I/O expansion for I²Ccompatible bus applications. It includeshigh-current drive capability, low supply current and individual I/Oconfiguration. I/O expander provides a simple solution when additional I/Os areneeded for ACPI, power switches, sensors, push buttons, LEDs and so on. TheMCP23016 consists of multiple 8-bit configuration registers for input, outputand polarity selection. The system master enables the I/Os as either inputs oroutputs by writing the I/O configuration bits. The data for each input or outputis kept in the corresponding input or output register. The polarity of the readregister can be inverted with the polarity inversion register.
