This lovely Staffordshire flatback figure captures a genteel Victorian couple in period dresstypical of the popular Staffordshire decorative pottery produced for mantel displays in the mid-19th century.
Description:
The lady wears a pink spotted dress with a deep red bodice, and she holds a wide-brimmed hat in one hand.
The gentleman is dressed in white with a striking blue coat, standing gracefully beside her.
The pair stand on a green base, with simple hand-painted detail and the glossy glaze characteristic of the era.
There are three small lines marked on the underside of the baselikely potters marks or an early batch number.
Size: Approx. 11.5 cm tall
Condition:
In very good condition for its age. There are no visible chips or cracks. One small spot on the green base appears to be part of the original glaze, possibly an in-kiln firing flawcommon in early Staffordshire pieces and not considered damage.
