HISTORY

SOUTH AFRICAN GLAZING COMPANY was first established. Afterwards subsidiary BEP (Boksburg East Potteries) was formed and they actively produced moulds but also imported mould shapes. The Lucia sticker and branding concept was no doubt influenced by the American Modern and Art Deco styling of that era. BEP also imported several moulds from the USA at the time and these already had the name in the moulds eg. JOY-CHINA, DISA and VERMONT. I still have to find out if actual stickers were also imported or if they were manufactured locally.

Wendy Gers remarks in Scorched Earth that she recalls seeing a pottery item with a BEP impressed mark AND a VERMONT sticker on it. I myself have seen a Lucia bambi / bokkie for sale in the US without any markings.
