Very very old Middle Eastern Possibly Arabian Large Sword in sheeth. This sword is solid metal with the makers name on the swords spine and the makers mark on either side. There is the swastika on the 1 side of the blade but in this case it is not actually the so called swastika.
This sign was adopted by the Germans for their "cause" and thus has a bad memory of it, the swastika is an ancient symbol present in numerous and diverse cultures around the world, including the cultures of India, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and North America. The picture below depicting the PLUS SIGN BUILDING is Carved out of volcanic rock in eastern Africa, these are the famous cross-shaped churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia. According to Ethiopian legend, they were built by angels, and are filled with swastika symbols. In the middle east there are examples such as the Golden Rhyton and a beautiful gold necklace of Swastikas found in Northern Iran, dating back 3,000 years to the first millennium B.C.
The meaning of it is Good Luck, Safe Travel, Holy Markings and so on so one of those reasons is why it was etched on this blade. This blade is very well made and at the end it curves as what is suggest is for the hooking of the neck to chop it clean off. The hilt seems to be solid cast iron and with a leather cover on the handle. The sheeth is made up of a wooden skeletal structure and held together by leather and sewed together. On either side of the sheeth there is white metal decorations which shows to be Solid SILVER and beaten and engraved beautifully. When the blade is being removed, one must remove it and keep tilting the blade at an angle to be removed without any damage to the sheeth which there has been in the past to the sheeth which tape has been put as a mend. But the stirdyness of the sheeth has not in the slightest been affected ! There is a loop on the sheeth, probably for where the carrier would atatch it somewhere to their waste, camel or back. For the age of this sword it has been kept in a very good condition and the blade in even better condition. Measurements : Sword in the sheeth - 66cm long, Sword itself - 65cm long, Blade - 51.3cm long x 0.6cm thick x (3cm - 3.6cm - 10.5cm) wide ( different widths along the blade ), Sheeth - 53.3cm x 12cm.
It is clear that the entire sword is HAND MADE. Date of item is unknown tho.
