PLEASE ENQUIRE ABOUT AVAILABILITY BEFORE PURCHASING

Glenmore Sands, situated about 7km north of Port Edward on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, is set in beautifully maintained gardens surrounding the swimming pool with children's pool.

The original Green Dolphin Hotel was constructed early in the 1900's and was converted to self catering units around 1983. Much of the original building is still in existence. The collection of old photographs and memorabilia makes for fascinating reading.

"The Nightingale" vessel ran aground on the rocks of Munster on Glenmore Beach. Part of the wreck, the boiler and cylinder, can still be seen on the rocks and is accessible at low tide.

Our "Nightingale Restaurant" is named after the vessel and is renowned countrywide for its fine seafood, excellent A-La-Carte menu and Sunday Lunch. The restaurant is on the front of the building and boasts great sea views.

Being situated on the "Wild Coast" sporting many shipwrecks, interested visitors can still pick up bits of porcelain or trader beads from these vessels, particularly after storms and high seas. A framed example of the porcelain can be found in our foyer.

The gardens are home to many Hyrax rock rabbits (Dassies) who are protected in this area. There are only two colonies on the South Coast. One at Southbroom and the other at Glenmore Sands.

We can also boast abundant bird-life. A short walk from the resort a pair of Fish Eagles are often to be seen perched on their vantage point high in the branches of the dead trees on the river bank. They can be seen particularly early in the morning or on an overcast day.

Glenmore Sands is a wonderful place to visit throughout the year. During the summer months we have the swimming pool and proximity to the beach to cool down from the heat and humid days. In the winter, from April to October, we have both Bottle Nose and Common Dolphins and Hump Back and Southern Right Whales passing by to entertain our guests. The numbers of Common Dolphin which come past in one school following the sardines have to be seen to be believed. Of course there is also the annual "Sardine Run" which in 2000 and 2001 beached in Glenmore Bay.

Glenmore Sands is a small resort with only 22 units. We do our best to ensure our guests feel at home and welcome. The resort received a RCI Hospitality Award in 2002.
